The 58th international scientific conference for students of physics and natural sciences “Open Readings 2015″ is searching for support!
The conference will take place from 24-27 March 2015. It is a non-profit event each year attracting promising young scientists of physics and natural sciences from all over the world (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Sweden, USA, Serbia, etc.) Students’ Scientific Association of Vilnius University Faculty of Physics, expects over 200 participants this year and even more visitors.
The Nobel Committee has awarded this year two practical inventions, the blue Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and the super-resolved fluorescence microscopy. Those are revolutionary and both use light to overcome technological barriers.
The 2014 Physics Nobel Prize goes to Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amano from Japan, and to Shuji Nakamura from USA, “for the invention of efficient blue light emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources”. In the past producing bright visible light was routinely done by using semi-conductor diodes, to make…

In June 2014, representatives of the EPS Young Minds sections were invited to present and discuss their activities at the 3rd Young Minds Leadership Meeting. These activities range from colloquia presenting research in physics to visits of local industry to a variety of activities sharing the fascination for physics with the public.
EPS Young Minds was created in 2010 to connect young scientists around Europe and support them by training their communication and scientific skills. The goal is to give them the opportunity to organise various events and create a European wide network of young researchers. At present…
The planning for the International Year of Light 2015 has brought to the fore the complexities of inter-societal cooperation. Each learned society has a geographically defined membership base. For example, the European Physical Society attracts mainly physicists from Europe. And while the American Physical Society has many international members, the majority of members are based in the USA. Moreover, each learned society defines its membership by scientific discipline, which can be more or less broad. The Optical Society of America…
