At the EPL Editorial Board meeting on 16 May 2014, Dr. Christophe Rossel was appointed as Chairman of the EPL Association [EPLA], responsible for the operation of the EPL journal. He takes over from Prof. Markus Schwoerer who has held that role for the past 3 years.

A visible Editorial Board for a visible EPL

EPL has still a modest impact factor [IF], only occasionally above 3 in connection with high-temperature and iron-based superconductors. This is too low when compared with the high quality of most EPL papers. It is fair to say that the IF does not really measure the impact of a journal but rather its visibility. The impact of a journal is measured by the scientific progress that has resulted from its papers, e.g., by the number of papers, which led to a Nobel Prize. Today visibility is nevertheless something a journal cannot do without, due to the growing background noise of hundreds of journals, often insignificant. Executive Committee Meeting Summary

For its January meeting, the EPS Executive Committee met at The Institute of Physics [IOP] premises, Portland Place, London, on the same day as the IOP council. During a joint lunch, the EPS president gave a short overview of EPS’s activities to the Council and there were fruitful discussions between IOP Council and EPS Executive Committee members.
