Philip Haslinger, TU Wien, wins the Young Scientist Prize 2019 of the AMOPD-EPS
The Young Scientist Prize 2019 of the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Division (AMOPD) of the European Physical Society (EPS) was awarded to Philipp Haslinger (TU Wien) for his pioneering contributions to the application of precision atom interferometry. His achievements include the ultrasensitive probe of candidates of dark matter by atom inerferometry thereby excluding so called Chameleon fields up to extremely large energy scales or small length scales and the first measurement of mechanical forces exerted on atoms by black-body radiation. He received the prize during a highly visible award ceremony at the ECAMP XIII, 8 – 12 April 2019, in Florence, Italy.
The Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics Division (AMOPD) of the European Physical Society (EPS) awards a Young Scientist Prize (YSP) triennially at its main division event, the European Conference on Atomic and Molecular Physics (ECAMP) to young scientists who have made original contributions to the field of atomic, molecular and optical physics within 8 years following their PhD.
The prize consists of a medal, a cash award in the amount of EUR 1,500, an invited talk at the edition of ECAMP the prize is awarded, and an invitation to write a „colloquium“ article for EPJD.
The next YSP will be awarded at the ECAMP XIV, 24 – 29 July 2022, in Vilnius, Lithuania. The call for nominations will be issued in June 2021.
