Science Me! – the European Science Show Competition
Are you an astronomer, biologist, chemist, computer specialist, Earth scientist, engineer, mathematician, neuroscientist, pharmacist, physician, physicist, psychologist, or any kind of scientist or geek? Are you keen on showcasing your science to a large audience of non-specialists and of all ages?
Then Science Me!, the 3rd edition of the European Science Show Competition, is made for you!
Join us in Geneva, Switzerland, on 7-8 July 2018, to convince the broad public in a playful 10-minute show that your science is smart and accessible.
Science Me! is aimed at strengthening the dialogue between scientists and the public in a playful and relaxed atmosphere.
The competition, organised by the Chimiscope – UNIGE and the Musée d’Histoire des Sciences, will be the flagship event of the Nuit de la Science, the famous science fair attracting ca. 35’000 visitors during a lively weekend in the wonderful park of the Perle-du-Lac.
10-minute presentations in all fields of science or technology, consisting in experiments or demonstrations or explanations, given by a maximum of two animators, are evaluated by the spectators and by an independent jury of experts in science communication.
Assessment by the public is based on duration and intensity of ovation/applause (bias-corrected dB-meter). Evaluation by the jury is based on a quantitative scoring of 30 criteria, including novelty of the subjects, scientific relevance (well-known concepts vs. cutting-edge research), didactics and explanations, interactivity with the public, visual aspects and fun, originality, artistic and poetic inputs, interdisciplinarity, simplicity of implementation, and respect of safety issues.
If the famous Richard Feynman public presentations inspire you, and you are convinced that your passion for science deserves to be shared, then apply not later than 11 May!
Details on the competition and pictures/videos/programmes of the previous events (2016: Geneva; 2017: Hannover) are available on http://ScienceMe.unige.ch.
