A new prize for Research in Laser Science and Applications has been launched by the Quantum Electronics & Optics Division [QEOD] of the European Physical Society [EPS]. The award – which is to be given biennially – will recognise recent excellent research, by up to three individuals, in the field of laser science and its application.
The award will be presented to its winner(s) during a prize ceremony at the 6th EPS Europhoton Conference on “Solid-State, Fibre and Waveguide Coherent Light Sources”, which is to be held in 2014…
The first International Cosmic Day will be held on 26 September this year. During this event, students and teachers worldwide will come together in research institutions, universities and classrooms to learn about cosmic particle research.
The event will celebrate the centenary of Victor Franz Hess’ discovery of cosmic rays – particles which originate in outer space and spread through the whole universe, often at extremely high energies. Through a series of seven high-altitude balloon rides, Hess measured the ionisation of the atmosphere…
The 2012 Trends in Nanotechnology International Conference [TNT 2012] will be held in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales, Madrid, from 10-14 September this year. The conference – the 13th in the TNT series – aims to be a forum for discussing current research in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology and related topics.
Topics under discussion at the event will include: atoms and molecular computing; high spatial resolution spectroscopies under SPM probe; grapheme and carbon nanotube based nanoelectronics and field emission…
The 25th Marian Smoluchowski Symposium on Statistical Physics will be held at the Collegium Novum, Jagiellonian University, Kraków on 9-13 September this year. This year, the conference is devoted to fluctuation relations in non-equilibrium regimes.
The conference series – which have been held annually since 1988 – is named in honour of Marian Smoluchowski, a Polish physicist who made significant contributions to natural science and statistical physics…
The CERN Council Open Symposium on the European Strategy for Particle Physics will be held in Kraków, Poland, on 10-12 September this year. The event, held in anticipation of the Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, aims to review the status of particle physics research and the preparation for future facilities.
The physics community was encouraged to submit input prior to the symposium. Such is published…
Cryocourse 2012 will be held between 9-20 September this year in Heidelberg, Germany, split between the locations of the Schöntal Monastery, for initial theoretic lectures, and the Kirchhoff-Institute for Physics, for the following practical sessions. The course – given in English – will cover the main topics of cryogenics, from the fundamental concepts to industrial applications.
The Cryocourse series are European-based intensive courses in advanced cryophysics and cryogenics…
