The International Conference on Science and Technology for FAIR in Europe 2014 will be held in Worms, Germany, from 13-17 October 2014.

IBA Europhysics Prize nominations open

The board of the EPS Nuclear Physics Division has announced calls for nominations are now open for the 2013 IBA-Europhysics prize, sponsored by IBA Group. The award will be made to one or several individuals for outstanding contributions to Applied Nuclear Science and Nuclear Methods and Nuclear Researches in Medicine.

The IBA prize was first awarded in 2004. Last year, Elisabetta Boaretto received the prize in recognition of her significant contribution to the development of precise quality controlled radiocarbon dating…

Lise Meitner Prize for nuclear science awarded

The 2012 Lise Meitner Prize has been jointly awarded to Karlheinz Langanke, of GSI and TU Darmstadt, and Friedrich-Karl Thielemann of the University of Basel, for “their seminal contributions to the description of nuclear processes in astrophysical environments that have changed our modern understanding of stellar evolution, supernovae explosions and nucleosynthesis.”

European Nuclear Physics Conference

The second European Nuclear Physics Conference [EuNPC2012] is being held on 17-21 September, 2012, at the Rin Grand Hotel in Bucharest, Romania.

Nicolae-Victor Zamfir new Nuclear Physics Division chair

Nicolae-Victor Zamfir is the new chair of the European Physical Society’s Nuclear Physics Division. Zamfir, from Bucharest, took up the role on the 1 January this year.

“I am sure with his scientific reputation and management experience, Victor [will be] an excellent chairman for the next two years,” said Zsolt Fulop, the outgoing chair.

Call for nominations for the 2012 Lise Meitner Prize

Nominations are now open for the 2012 Lise Meitner Prize for Nuclear Science, which is given biannually by the European Physical Society’s Nuclear Physics Board in recognition of outstanding work in the fields of applied, experimental or theoretical nuclear science.

The Lise Meitner Prize – which is named after the Austrian physicist who gave a fundamental contribution in the discovery of nuclear fission – is sponsored by CANBERRA.
