EPS Nuclear Physics Division contributions for the IYL 2015
The International Year of the Light 2015 [IYL 2015] is celebrated worldwide with many events and initiatives. The European Physical Society is one of the founding partners of the IYL2015 and the Board of the Nuclear Physics Division of EPS also contributes to this effort with dedicated publications foreseen in journals like Europhysics News and through other actions in different media.

IBA Europhysics Prize nominations open
The board of the EPS Nuclear Physics Division has announced calls for nominations are now open for the 2013 IBA-Europhysics prize, sponsored by IBA Group. The award will be made to one or several individuals for outstanding contributions to Applied Nuclear Science and Nuclear Methods and Nuclear Researches in Medicine.

The NPD is active in the organisation of the European Nuclear Physics Conference series, the Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics Conference series, and the award of prestigious prizes. The board also provides input to the EPS on issues related to nuclear physics and relations to other European and international bodies interested in nuclear physics and policy. Lise Meitner Prize for nuclear science awarded
The 2012 Lise Meitner Prize has been jointly awarded to Karlheinz Langanke, of GSI and TU Darmstadt, and Friedrich-Karl Thielemann of the University of Basel, for “their seminal contributions to the description of nuclear processes in astrophysical environments that have changed our modern understanding of stellar evolution, supernovae explosions and nucleosynthesis.”

Nicolae-Victor Zamfir new Nuclear Physics Division chair
Nicolae-Victor Zamfir is the new chair of the European Physical Society’s Nuclear Physics Division. Zamfir, from Bucharest, took up the role on the 1 January this year.

Nominations are now open for the 2012 Lise Meitner Prize for Nuclear Science, which is given biannually by the European Physical Society’s Nuclear Physics Board in recognition of outstanding work in the fields of applied, experimental or theoretical nuclear science.
