During a session of the EPS Executive Committee, the Committee of European Integration of the European Physical Society (CEI-EPS) organised a meeting of physical societies of the EPS that are on the periphery of the European Union, or are members of the Balkan Physical Union. The purpose of the meeting was to share information among each of the societies and identify common issues affecting the societies and physics in their respective countries. Following the presentations, ideas for action by the EPS would be explored.
The workshop “Widening participation of CEI Countries in the EU Research Programs” – Training and Research in Physics Workshop – was held in Bucharest, Romania, from 25 to 27 May 2014. It was the first working meeting of the consortium, following two preparatory sessions held in Venice and Trieste. At least 2 other workshops will be held in the frame of the project aiming to promote the integration of the physics community in Central and South-Eastern European countries into the ERA.

After the successful symposium entitled “The position of physics in secondary schools in the region” held in Aleksinac, Serbia in 2013, a similar, but much larger meeting was recently held at the same venue. The symposium “Experiments in high school physics teaching” (21-23 February 2014) was organized by the Agricultural School “Sumatovac”, the Gymnasium and Technical School “Prota Stevan Dimitrijevic” and the Union of physics teachers of Aleksinac in cooperation with Physical Society Nis.
