2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the European Physical Society (EPS). In this context, and following the success of two previous meetings in Cambridge (United Kingdom) and Pöllau (Austria), the organisers are happy to announce the Third International Conference on the History of Physics, under the auspices of the EPS, which will take place in Donostia/San Sebastian (Spain) in October 17-21, 2018.
The Optical Society and DPG name Gerd Leuchs winner of the 2018 Herbert Walther Award
The Optical Society (OSA) and the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) today announce that the 2018 Herbert Walther Award will be presented to Gerd Leuchs, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Erlangen and University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany.

Call for EPS Fellows
EPS Members are invited to nominate EPS Individual Members as EPS Fellows. Individuals whose achievements in physics, whether in research, industry or education and/or through commitment to the SOCIETY warrant specific recognition are eligible to become EPS Fellows.
EPS Edison Volta Prize 2018: Call for nominations
Nominations are now open for the Edison Volta Prize of the European Physical Society [EPS]. The award – intended to promote excellence in research – will be given in recognition of outstanding research and achievements in physics.
Call for nominations for the EPS Emmy Noether Distinction
In 2013, the European Physical Society [EPS] launched the Emmy Noether Distinction to recognise noteworthy women physicists.
Emmy Noether, with her fundamental and revolutionary work in the areas of abstract algebra and theoretical physics, is a role model for future generations of physicists. The laureates of the Emmy Noether Distinction are chosen for their capacity to inspire with their scientific merits the next generation of scientists, and especially encourage women to pursue a career in physics.
EPS 50th anniversary: photo contest
The European Physical Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2018. As part of the celebrations, the EPS would like to collect photos that graphically represent the life and work of contemporary researchers. The photo competition “EPS – 50 years and counting” is now open for your submissions.
EPS Plasma Physics Division “PhD Research Award”: call for nominations
The Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society (EPS) grants up to four prizes annually to young scientists from the 38 European countries associated with the EPS in recognition of truly outstanding research achievements associated with their PhD study in the broad field of plasma physics.

EPS CMD Europhysics Prize 2018: the call for nominations is open

The 2018 Roadmap of the European Strategic Forum for Research (ESFRI): Physics and Engineering
Following the decision of the Competitiveness Council of the EU and the ESFRI forum, the roadmap for Research Infrastructures (RI) in Europe is reviewed and updated after a second year. For the new roadmap 2018, the official launching was produced at Cape Town (South Africa) in October 2016 during the ICRI conference.
EPS Condensed Matter Division : CMD 27 – DPG Spring meeting : call for session proposals
The next conference of the Condensed Matter Division of the EPS, CMD 27, will be held jointly with the Spring meeting of the Condensed Matter Section (SKM) of the German Physical Society DPG in Berlin, on March 11th – 16th, 2018. For this special edition of CMD, marking the 50th anniversary of the EPS, we are expecting over 5,000 participants from all over Europe.
