The Odysseus contest, launched in July 2012, has extended its submission deadline to 15 February 2013.
Students of 14-18 years of age are invited to design and demonstrate a space-themed project. The pupils are encouraged to develop their critical thought and go beyond their actual scientific knowledge with the help of a teacher.
The contest encourages the use of techniques from the inquiry-based science education. Many resources…
This year the EPS, thanks to the initiative of the EPS Young Minds, has produced a nice calendar in poster format. The calendar has been specially designed to give at glance the essential and attractive information on the many activities of the EPS.
The EPS calendar is currently being sent to all EPS Individual Members but it can also be downloaded…
After the UNESCO endorsement last year, the EPS-coordinated proposal for an International Year of Light is working its way through the various procedural steps to the United Nations General Assembly. But serious planning for events and activities is already underway, and the first multi-partner planning meeting will take place in early February 2013 at the International Centre of Theoretical Physics [ICTP] in Trieste, Italy.
The planning meeting will involve Steering Committee representatives from the nations of Ghana and Mexico…
The EPS Nuclear Physics Division [NPD] would like to welcome its newly elected Board members, Karlheinz Langanke (GSI and TU Darmstadt – Darmstadt, Germany) and Faiçal Azaiez (Institut de Physique Nucléaire – Orsay, France).
At the same time, the EPS and the NPD would like to thank Héloïse Goutte and Horst Stöcker for their hard work and dedication over the years.
EPS Divisions and Groups are essential to the EPS. They are created by interested and motivated physicists…
Underneath the “Old Man in Military Costume” painted by the Dutch artist Rembrandt in the years 1630/31, investigations spotted another portrait which was only faintly distinguishable with all applied technologies. An international team of scientists now used a detailed mock-up to test different methods to look beneath the original painting at DESYs X-ray source DORIS and at the National Synchrotron Light Source [NSLS] of the Brookhaven National Laboratory [BNL] in the United States, as well as with a mobile X-ray scanner. The results are published as the cover story of the “Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry” [JAAS] of the British Royal Society of Chemistry…
The Ibn Tofail University, Morocco, and the Cadi Ayyad University Marrakech will host the Fourth International Meeting on Dielectric Materials [IMDM’4], the 29-31 May 2013 in Marrakech.
The IMDM’4 Conference is an international event to discuss the current research on electrical insulation, dielectric phenomena and related topics. The conference will provide an opportunity for specialists from around the world to meet and to discuss ongoing research. More than 200 scientists and engineers from around twenty countries …
The sixth edition of the Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics Conference [NPA VI] will be held from 19 to 24 May 2013 in Lisbon, Portugal. The Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics Conference is organised every 2 years by the EPS Nuclear Physics Division.
Discussions will cover many topics related to nucleosynthesis, experimental facilities, s-process, astrophysics in stars and supernovae, neutron stars, isotope detection and solar standard model…
The Vienna Conference on Instrumentation [VCI] will take place n 11-15 February 2013 and will present the newest developments of detectors for particle, astro-particle and nuclear physics and their applications in biology, medicine, neutron scattering and synchrotron radiation.
The Conference will have plenary sessions with invited talks giving en overview of new detector development. The Conference Organizers particularly encourage contributions relating to associated detector electronics…
The 4th International Particle Accelerator Conference [IPAC’13] will take place in Shanghai, China, from 12 to 17 May 2013. The conference will bring together accelerator scientists and engineers from all over the world to discuss the latest developments in a field that underpins many areas of research, from high energy physics to structural biology. The three previous IPAC conferences have each attracted over 1000 participants. As a truly international conference series, the venue moves between Asia, Europe and North America on a three-year cycle. IPAC’12 was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in May 2012; in 2014 the conference will return to Europe, when IPAC’14…
The European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the 12th European Quantum Electronics Conference [CLEO®/Europe-IQEC] are being held at the International Congress Centre in Munich, Germany, on 12-16 May 2013.
CLEO®/Europe will emphasise applied physics, optical engineering and the applications of photonics and laser technology. IQEC emphasises basic research in laser physics, nonlinear optics and quantum optics.
The conference is being managed by the European Physical Society Conference Department…
