Call for nominations for the Research in Laser Science and Applications Prize 2018
The Quantum Electronics and Optics Division (QEOD) of the European Physical Society is presently soliciting nominations for their biennial prize in ‘Research in Laser Science and Applications’ to be presented at the 2018 Europhoton Conference on Solid-State, Fibre and Waveguide Coherent Light Sources. Details of the application procedure and information required are given below.
2018 King Faisal International Prize for Science awarded to John Macleod Ball
The King Faisal Foundation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has awarded the 2018 King Faisal International Prize for Science to Sir John Macleod Ball of UK for his fundamental contributions to nonlinear partial differential equations, calculus of variations, and their applications to materials science and liquid crystals.
The European Physical Society 2018 EPS Condensed Matter Division Europhysics Prize
The 2018 EPS Condensed Matter Division Europhysics Prize is awarded to Lucio Braicovich and Giacomo Ghiringhelli for the development and scientific exploration of high-resolution Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS). The Prize will be presented on Tuesday March 13th, 2018, at the Awards Session of the 27th General Conference of the EPS Condensed Matter Division, to be held in Berlin from 11th to 16th March 2018 together with the Spring Meeting of the Condensed Matter Division of the German Physical Society, DPG.

IUPAP Young Scientist Prize in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics 2018: call for nominations
Nominations are sought for the Young Scientist Prize in Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Physics, which will be awarded in 2018 by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics through Commission C15 (AMO Physics). The prize will be awarded during the 26th International Conference on Atomic Physics (ICAP) to be held from 22-27 July 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. The Prize includes a certificate, a medal, a EURO 1,000 award and an invited presentation at ICAP.
The Summer 2017 Emmy Noether distinction presented to Catalina Curceanu

Magurele Physics Campus Honoured with EPS Historic Site Distinction
On 15th of November 2017 a plaque declaring the Magurele Physics Campus as an EPS historic site was unveiled by the EPS President, Rüdiger Voss. The EPS Secretary General, David Lee, participated in the ceremony, together with representatives of local authorities, the Romanian Ministry of Research, the Romanian Academy, and the Research Institutes from Magurele.
