ECAMP 12, the 12 European Conference on Atoms, Molecules and Photons by the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Division [AMOPD] of the EPS took place at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany from September 5-9 2016.
Gazeta de Física, the quarterly magazine of the Portuguese Physical Society, turns 70 this October. Published for the first time in 1946, it is one of the longest-running publications aimed at scientific dissemination in Portuguese.
This year, the 31th summer school for young physicists was held from 20-26 June 2016 in Veli Losinj, Croatia. The school was attended by 31 students who were all competitors in state and international physics competitions, tournaments and Olympiads.
ESA’s historic Rosetta mission has concluded as planned, with the controlled impact onto the comet it had been investigating for more than two years.
Confirmation of the end of the mission arrived at ESA’s control centre in Darmstadt, Germany at 11:19 GMT (13:19 CEST) with the loss of Rosetta’s signal upon impact.

Nominations are now open for the Editor-in-Chief of EPL, a leading global letters journal owned and published by a consortium of 17 national physical societies in Europe. The Editor-in-Chief [EiC] needs to be a recognised authority and leading researcher in a field of physics, and have a broad knowledge and interest in physics and its frontiers. The EiC will need to demonstrate strong commitment and leadership to further develop EPL as a top-ranking journal. Experience with the editorial process for a physics journal is also desirable.

In August 2015, at Eötvös University (ELTE) in Budapest, the “Teaching Physics Innovatively” Conference (TPI-15) featured plenary presentations, contributed paper sessions and a panel discussion about recent challenges in physics education. The event was attended by more than 100 participants from 18 countries, and dedicated to the bringing together of teachers and scientists, mediators and promoters of physics, who may jointly build bridges between researchers and society.
