Young Researcher Prizes in Quantum Electronics and Optics

The European Physical Society is delighted to announce the 2015 winners of its young researcher Prizes in Quantum Electronics and Optics. These prizes are awarded once every two years, and recognise the highest level of excellence amongst emerging researchers. The young researcher prizes include the prestigious Fresnel prize for research achievements obtained before the age of 35, as well as prizes for the best nominated European PhD theses in optics over the last two years. The awards were presented in a ceremony on Tuesday June 23rd at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO), Europe and the European Quantum Electronics Conference (EQEC), held during the World of Photonics Congress in Munich, Germany.

PLANCKS 2015 in Leiden, NL

From the 22-24 May 2015, the second edition of Physics League Across Numerous Countries for Kick-ass Students [PLANCKS] was held. The event started on Friday with a very successful opening symposium, which hosted over 300 people. The main event, the physics Olympiad, was organised on Saturday. A total of 28 teams from 18 countries took up the challenge, but only the best could be praised with the title of ”Best Physics Students of the World”, and winning the grand prize of …

The Institut Radiumforschung (Institute for Radium Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences), in Vienna is the first Historic Site of the European Physical Society in Austria. In a ceremony on 28 May 2015, a commemorative plaque was unveiled by Luisa Cifarelli, Chair of the EPS Historic Site Committee and former President of EPS, and Anton Zeilinger, the President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in front of the building in Boltzmanngasse 3, which was originally constructed for the Institute for Radium Research.
