The idea of a Balkan Physical Olympiad (BPO) emerged at the time of the formation of the Balkan Physics Union (1985-1987). Based on this long-standing idea, after the initiative from the Hellenic Physical Society (HPS) and numerous joint discussions, the Balkan Physics Union (BPU) Council decided to accept the initiative for the organisation of BPO [...]
Based on a long-term existing initiative and need for a BALKAN PHYSICS OLYMPIAD, discussions at the last BPU Council held in Sofia, and the initiative from colleagues from Greece (Thessaloniki/Hellenic Physical Society), we have the pleasure to invite you to the 1st Balkan Physics Olympiad – BPO2019. The 1st BPO will take place in Thessaloniki, [...]
With a hope of bridging the gap between Southeastern and Western European scientific community, the participants of the UNESCO sponsored Balkan Workshop BW2003 (Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia) came to a common agreement on the initiative for the creation of the Southeast European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (SEENET-MTP). The Network was a natural extension of the WIGV initiative – Scientists in Global Responsibility, launched by Julius Wess in 1999.
The cooperation between EPS and the South-Eastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (SEENET-MTP) was established almost a decade ago and was further reinforced at the Kick-off Meeting of the EPS Committee of European Integration (EPS-CEI) during the Balkan Workshop BW2013 (Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, 2013).
The workshop “Widening participation of CEI Countries in the EU Research Programs” – Training and Research in Physics Workshop – was held in Bucharest, Romania, from 25 to 27 May 2014. It was the first working meeting of the consortium, following two preparatory sessions held in Venice and Trieste. At least 2 other workshops will be held in the frame of the project aiming to promote the integration of the physics community in Central and South-Eastern European countries into the ERA.
The project was proposed by a consortium consisting of the European Physical Society and…
After the successful symposium entitled “The position of physics in secondary schools in the region” held in Aleksinac, Serbia in 2013, a similar, but much larger meeting was recently held at the same venue. The symposium “Experiments in high school physics teaching” (21-23 February 2014) was organized by the Agricultural School “Sumatovac”, the Gymnasium and Technical School “Prota Stevan Dimitrijevic” and the Union of physics teachers of Aleksinac in cooperation with Physical Society Nis. The general sponsor of the symposium was the Municipal Assembly of Aleksinac. There were 115 participants from FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Republic of Srpska – Bosnia and Herzegovina…
Under the the aegis and with the suppport of the European Physical Society [EPS], the Kick-off Meeting of the EPS Committee of European Integration [EPS-CEI] and the Balkan Workshop BW2013 – Beyond Standard Models in Cosmology and Particle Physics, the central meeting of the Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics [SEENET-MTP] in 2013, were held in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, from 25-29 April 2013. In total 78 participants from 25 countries came for the events. Around 30 invited scientific talks, 15 panel presentations and several posters were…
The new edition of the Balkan Workshop – “Beyond Standard Models” [BW2013] will be held this spring, from 25 to 29 April 2013, in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia.
The series of Balkan workshops has been a very important part of a project of the Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics [SEENET-MTP]. Created in 2003, SEENET-MTP was the initiative of the University of Niš, Serbia, and the Scientists in Global Responsibility project (Wissenschaftler in Global Verantwortung)…
