8 January: John Dudley, EPS President, participated in the IYL2015 Opening Ceremony in France.
19 – 20 January: Opening Ceremony of the 2015 International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies, UNESCO, Paris, France. EPS staff together with EPS Young Minds volunteers prepared the venue of the participants.
The 47th Conference of the European Group on Atomic Systems [EGAS 2015] will take place at the University of Latvia, Riga from 14 – 17 July 2015.
The European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics [EPS-HEP] is one of the major international conferences that reviews the field of high energy physics every second year. The High Energy and Particle Physics Division of the European Physical Society has organised this conference since its beginning in 1971. The latest conferences in this series were held in Stockholm, Grenoble, Krakow, Manchester, Lisbon and Aachen.
On 16 January 2015, ESA Director General Jean-Jacques Dordain met the press to provide an overview of ESA’s achievements in 2014 and the opportunities ahead in 2015. The event took place at ESA headquarters in Paris, France.
After a successful Council meeting at Ministerial level, held on 2 December, 2015 will be another year when ESA launches missions that cover all the domains of the space sector, in partnership and cooperation with other European institutions and industry, demonstrating the strength of the European space programme.

5 December 2014: J. Dudley, EPS President, D. Lee, EPS General Secretary, and J. Rivero, IYL 2015 Outreach Officer, attended a meeting organised by the European Commission in Brussels (BE) to discuss coordination of activities of the three projects financed to promote photonics in Europe.
The 42nd Annual IOP Spring Conference on Plasma Physics will run from 30 March to 2 April at the Kents Hill Park Training and Conference Centre in Milton Keynes and will cover all disciplines including Magnetic and Inertial confinement fusion, Astrophysical Plasmas and Low Density and Technological/Industrial Plasmas to name a few.
This meeting is the thirteenth in a series initiated in 1980 and will be held in Castiglione della Pescaia and La Biodola, Italy, devoted to advanced detectors for high energy and astroparticle physics experiments. It will take place from 24-30 May 2015.

7 November: John Dudley, EPS president, hosted an IYL 2015 meeting with David Lee, EPS secretary general, Jorge Rivero, EPS IYL 2015 outreach officer, and UNESCO staff in Besançon, France.
The Opening Ceremony of the International Year of Light will take place from 19-20 January 2015 in Paris, France. Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
This first day will start with a high-level session and will include welcome addresses by UN and UNESCO representatives and Member States, as well as other dignitaries. This conference continues a series of plasma physics conferences organized by the EPS Plasma Physics Division covering the wide field from nuclear fusion research to low temperature plasmas, as well as space and astrophysical plasmas.
The venue of the 42nd EPS conference will be in Centro Cultural de Belem, located between the famous Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, in Lisbon, Portugal.

Rosetta is a space probe of the European Space Agency [ESA] to study the comet Churyumov–Gerasimenko. It is a joint mission with contributions from its Member States and NASA. Rosetta’s Philae lander was built by a consortium led by the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), the Max Planck Society (MPG), the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) and the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI). It is the first mission in history to rendezvous with a comet. It is escorting the comet as they orbit the Sun together, and has deployed a lander to its surface.
