African Astronomical Society launched
The European Physical Society welcomes the creation of the African Astronomical Society (AfAS) and was represented by Prof. J. Bell Burnell at the offical launch in April 2011.

Executive Committee News 27-28 January

News from the European Research Council
The European Research Council (ERC) has recently appointed seven new members of the Scientific Council; as well as having published the results for the advanced grants.

ESF Conference Grants Announced
The European Science Foundation has announced that it will fund up to five conferences on physics, biophysics or environmental sciences in 2013.

Third Knowledge and Innovation Community

EPS Council Meeting 2011
The 2011 EPS Council Meeting took place on 1-2 April at the EPS Secretariat in Mulhouse. During the meeting Associate Members, Divisions, Groups, Individual Members and delegates from EPS Member Societies received reports on the activities of the EPS in 2010.
In addition, the Council was pleased to welcome the new Executive Director of the Université d’Haute Alsace, M. Alexis Rinckenbach….
