The Executive Committee of the European Physical society met in Mulhouse, France, on 24 June 2014. This was the first meeting after the elections at Council. In addition to appointing officers, the Executive Committee discussed better communication with Member Societies and Divisions and Groups. Each Member of the Executive Committee acts as a privileged contact to a set of Member Societies and Divisions and Groups.

The European Commission has opened a consultation on “Science 2.0″. A briefing document has been prepared describing what the European Commission means by Science 2.0, as well as introducing the issues. The consultation is open to all interested parties, and closes on 30 September 2014.

The workshop “Widening participation of CEI Countries in the EU Research Programs” – Training and Research in Physics Workshop – was held in Bucharest, Romania, from 25 to 27 May 2014. The Council of the European Physical Society met at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy on 4-5 April 2014. Over the two day meeting, Council delegates listened to presentations summarising the activity of the EPS in 2013, as well as programmed activities in 2014 and beyond.

The Physics Education Division of the European Physical Society [EPS-PED] and the International Research Group on Physics Teaching [GIREP] have signed a cooperation agreement. The letter includes in particular the exchange of information on activities and conferences.

Learned societies worldwide to plan the future of particle physics

Three community driven initiatives in 2013 have provided an opportunity to high-energy particle “to build a compelling science case for major research facilities in Asia, Europe and the US.
