The EPS-Accelerators Group prizes is pleased to announce the laureates of the Rolf Wideröe Prize, the Gersch Budker Prize and the Frank Sacherer Prize. These prizes are awarded every three years for exceptional work in the accelerator field.
The Rolf Wideröe Prize for “outstanding work in the accelerator field without age limit” will be awarded to Professor Mikael Eriksson, Machine Director of the Max-IV Laboratory, Lund, Sweden, for outstanding leadership in the design, construction and commissioning of the MAXlab Synchrotron Radiation Facilities. His intense activities in different worldwide machines and in education have had an extremely important impact on numerous existing synchrotron…
The Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East [SESAME] is a 3rd-generation synchrotron light source under construction in Allan, Jordan. Like the European Organization for Nuclear Research [CERN], it was set up under the auspices of UNESCO and is now a completely independent intergovernmental organization. The accelerator system consists of a Microtron, a Booster which accelerates the beam up to 800 MeV, and the 2.5 GeV synchrotron ring. Four experimental beamlines are foreseen…
The EPS Executive Committee supports a widespread dissemination through its e-EPS newsletter of the following appeal, which is integrally reproduced.
Dear Colleagues,
please consider our initiative which is open on support-education-eu.itp.uni-heidelberg.de trying to assist education in the EU countries affected by serious economic pressure. We should like to ask you to sign it, and it would be…
Science is extremely rewarding for its players. We undertake our careers pushed by curiosity and the need for understanding, and we have the possibility of being at the forefront of human knowledge in a specific area. We are revealing pieces of the unknown, we see our achievements become useful technology, our ideas made reality, that save lives, bridge the world. This year we have seen the first evidence of a particle that has never been measured before, thanks to the huge amount of data collected by LHC experiments, and this event has resonated around the world as an accomplishment for all humankind. And we have seen the first treatment of a cancer patient with carbon ions…
The proceedings of all EPS division and group conferences are to be made available to EPS members online. It is hoped that this will help intensify the links between different divisions and groups, while creating a permanent registry of EPS proceedings independent of any individual, or divisional, web server.
The facility – which has been active since March this year – was the brainchild of Carlos Hidalgo, the chair of the EPS Plasma Division, and was commissioned after being universally well received as a concept in a survey of…
