3rd International Conference of History of Physics
The PhysicsEstoire prize was awarded to Jim Bennett on 19 October 2018. The ceremony took place during the Joint 3rd International Conference on the History of Physics, organised under the auspices of the European Physical Society and 4th Early-Career Conference for Historians in the Physical Sciences of the American Institute of Physics, 17-20 October 2018, in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain.
Jim Bennett recently retired as Director of the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford, which prospered under his creative and energetic leadership. He is well known for public lectures that are at once erudite and entertaining, combining personal and societal aspects of the history of physics with a curator’s interest in the nuts and bolts of instruments. He encouraged the inauguration of the International Conference on History of Physics and represents par excellence the balanced approach to the subject which is its essential aim.
Founded by Echophysics and sponsored by Echophysics and the EPS History of Physics Group, this prize for outstanding merits for and achievements in the History of Physics was first awarded in 2016 at the 2nd International Conference on the History of Physics in Pöllau, Austria. The first prize winner was Helge Stjernholm Kragh, Professor Emeritus at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen.
The 4th International Conference on the History of Physics will take place in Dublin in 2020.
