Report on the 15th Experimental Chaos and Complexity Conference
Following a longstanding tradition, the conference was devoted to cover new advances in applications and experiments in all areas related to nonlinear dynamical systems and complexity with specialists in fluids and lasers, neuronal dynamics, cardiac dynamics, systems biology, geophysics, epidemiology, granular systems, “science of cities” and human mobility and data analysis. We enclose, together with this report, a copy of the book of abstracts of the conference that can also be downloaded from the following address https://eventos.urjc.es/9662/files/15th-experimental-chaos-and-complexity-conference.html
The conference attracted a total of 147 participants from 20 countries, with 18 invited speakers, 41 contributed and 54 posters. Among presentations of high scientific value, we highlight the plenary talk given by Professor Kenneth Showalter, guest of honor and pioneer of the chemical chaos, and the one by Nadav Zafrir, special guest sponsored by the Institute of Sciences of Cybersecurity and Data Networks of the URJC, co-founder and executive director of Team8, the leading group of cybersecurity experts in Israel.
As it is tradition in this event, the conference paid special attention to promoting the participation of young researchers in the field. A long poster session was organized on the afternoon of June 5, although posters were on display throughout the entire event. All conference participants were given the opportunity to vote for their preferred poster presentation and the results of this voting procedure were announced during the Gala Dinner that took place on Wednesday, June 6 together with the awards ceremony.
The EPS-sponsored prize for the best poster presented by a PhD student was awarded to Daniel Gurevich from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA, with the poster entitled “Topological analysis of experimental recordings of ventricular fibrillation” whose abstract can be found in the Book of Abstracts of the conference (attached). The prize was given by Lou Pecora, one of the members of the International Organizing Committee of the ECC conference. We also attach a couple of photos taken during the award ceremony and the issued diploma.
