2016 EPS-AMOPD Young Scientist Prize awarded to Christian Brand
The 2016 Young Scientist Prize of the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Division has been awarded to
- Dr. Christian Brand from the University of Vienna (Austria)
for his outstanding contribution to “matter-wave experiments with complex molecules”.
The Young Scientist Prize was presented during an official award ceremony at the recent ECAMP-12 conference held at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt (Germany) from September 5-9, 2016. The Scientific Chair of the AMOPD, Dr. D. Vernhet, and the Local Chair, Dr. R. Dörner, presented the award on behalf of the AMOPD board. The prize includes a “hot topic talk” at ECAMP12, a certificate from the EPS-AMOP Division, a silver medal and a 1,500 € award.
Christian Brand studied for his PhD at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf (Germany) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Schmitt. His doctorate contribution on “Shaping and Modelling Electronically Excited States of Indoles” has already received an award from the German Physical Society. After receiving his PhD degree in 2013, he then moved to the Institute for Quantum Nanophysics & Molecular Quantum Optics at the University of Vienna, Austria to join the group of Prof. Dr. M. Arndt as postdoctoral researcher. Christian Brand gave a “hot topic talk” at ECAMP12 on “An Atomically Thin Matter-Wave Beam Splitter”.
