Executive and Staff Activity for May 2014

The EPS works to support its members. Find below for the list of the activities of EPS Executive Committee and staff for May 2014:

  • 5-6 May: B. Huchet, EPS Communication Coordinator, attended the HOPE WG1 meeting in Naples, Italy
  • 7 May: D. Lee, EPS Secretary General and J. Ongena, Chairman EPS Energy Group attended a planning meetig of the 4th European Energy Conference, in Karlsruhe, Germany
  • 9 May: L. Cifarelli, Chair of the EPS Historic Sites Committee, participated in the Historic Site ceremony of the Fabra Observatory, Barcelona, Spain
  • 12 May: J. Dudley, EPS President, and D. Lee, EPS Secretary General, visited IYL2015 partners in Brussels, Belgium, and in the Netherlands
  • 12-13 May: C. Biscari as EPS representative participated to the SESAME Council in Frascati, Italy
  • 13-16 May: Zsolt Fülöp, EPS Executive Committee member, presented the EPS activities during the ATHENA Final Workshop by the Lake Como in Italy
  • 15-16 May: D. Lee, EPS Secretary General, and F. Burr, EPL Staff editor, attended EPL Editorial Board Meeting and the EPL Board of Directors in Paris, France
  • 20 May: D. Lee, EPS Secretary General, and G. Gunaratnam met French IYL2015 partners in Mulhouse, France to discuss potential local actions
  • 21 May: J. Dudley, EPS President, and D. Lee, EPS Secretary General, met with conference organisers of World of Photonics Congress in Mulhouse, France
  • 23 May: L. Cifarelli, Chair of the EPS Historic Sites Committee, participated in the Historic Site ceremony of the Nadjakov Institute of Solid State Physics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria
  • 25 May: J. Dudley, EPS President, represented the EPS in an International Photonics Workshop held in Doha, Qatar
  • 25-27 May: D. Lee, EPS Secretary General, and G. Djordjevic attended the Committee on European Integration Workshop in Bucarest, Romania

One of the most rewarding experiences in preparing for the International Year of Light next year has been to see at firsthand just how many physicists are committed to science outreach. It has been extremely encouraging to learn about the many outreach initiatives throughout Europe.
