Everybody wants to see the sky
A modern person is bonded tightly to the different types of screen, starting from a smartphone to a cinema screen. Especially, young people are affected in this way. Frequently, they search and watch the beauty of the Nature on the laptop while the amazing physical phenomena surround us everywhere. The simplest example is the stellar sky that attracts human sights around the Globe during the centuries. These thoughts and ideas have inspired the EPS Lviv Young Minds section members to let anyone and particularly young and kids get more comprehension about celestial objects by the practical experience in the Astronomical Observatory.
Everybody had the opportunity to see the sky through the telescopes in Lviv, Ukraine, on 9 October 2013. “Open Day in Astronomical Observatory” was organized by the EPS Lviv Young Minds Section in collaboration with the astronomical observatory of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
The citizens and guests of the city – from children to adults – were invited to put astrophysicists a question, to watch short scientific films, to get the booklets containing short information on the celestial objects, which could be observed through the telescope lens. Every visitor of the observatory could find something interesting: while the kids were excited by the models of different astronomical objects, the adults were fascinated by the beauty of stars.
Thank to the well-organized promotion, more than 1,000 people came to see the sky that evening! Next day the event was in news of several TV channels, and the vice-president of EPS Lviv Young Minds Oleh Menchyshyn gave an interview on this successful dissemination activity.
