A competition to design museum quality exhibits has been opened by Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013 [MPE2013]. The exhibits – which could be image, video, programme or physically based – will contribute to MPE 2013’s aim of showcasing the ways in which mathematics can be used to tackle worldwide problems.

The top three modules will be awarded respective cash prizes of 5,000, 3,000, and 2,000 USD. Winning exhibits will also be displayed both on the exhibition website and in special exhibitions at the Deutches Technikmuseum, in Berlin; the Mathemtikum, in Giessen; and the MiMa Museum for Minerals and Mathematics, in Oberwolfach. In addition, the exhibits submitted will form the basis of a virtual exhibition at the Mathematischen Forschungsinstituts Oberwolfach.

Both the competition and the Mathematics of Planet Earth exhibitions are being sponsored in 2013 by UNESCO.

The deadline for contest submissions is 20 December 2012. For more information, please visit the MPE 2013 website.
