Chinese Physical Society celebrates 80th Anniversary
The Chinese Physical Society is celebrating its 80th Anniversary on 25 August this year. A commemorate event, which is being held in Beijing, will bring together international physics leaders to discuss the status of physics worldwide. European Physical Society president Luisa Cifarelli will be in attendance.
The celebratory special session will also include a forum on physics education and outreach, workshops in a number of select research fields, and excursions to local laboratories and places of interest.
Much like its European counterpart, the Chinese Physical Society acts to promote the development and popularization of physics; the fostering of international scientific collaboration; and the enrichment of physics education and outreach. Founded in 1932 under the leadership of the China Association for Science and Technology, the society is a member of both the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies.
The Chinese Physical Society – which currently has over 40,000 members – is composed of eight working commissions; 31 regional societies; and 28 sub-societies and committees which cover the various disciplines within the field of physics. In addition, the society also supports a number of awards and oversees the publication of a multitude of academic journals and newsletters, notably including Chinese Physics Letters, the International Physics Education Newsletter and Communications in Theoretical Physics.
