2012 EPS University Student Fellowships
Three University Student Fellowships – of 2,000 euros each – are available from the European Physical Society [EPS] in 2012. The EPS fellowships are given to promising young physics students in recognition of academic excellence.

Second European Energy Conference
The Second European Energy Conference [E2C] is being held at the Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre, in the Netherlands, on 17-20 April this year. European Physical Society a STEPS THREE partner
The European Physical Society has become a partner in the third Stakeholders Tune European Physics Studies [STEPS3] network. The project, spanning 2012-15, will bring together 60 institutions – representing 31 European countries – in order to gather input from stakeholders in European physics education.

Students “hangout” with CMS physicists on Google+
The Compact Muon Solenoid experiment at the LHC [CMS] recently organised two virtual visits to the CMS experimental cavern, around 100 meters underground, using the Google+ Hangouts platform. Schools, universities and interested members of the public were invited to remotely connect with physicists in front of the CMS detector and in the above-ground control room, to talk about the detector, the LHC, and the physics goals of the collaboration.

Call for C16 Young Scientist Prize in Plasma Physics
Nominations are now open for the 2012 C16 Young Scientist Prize in Plasma Physics of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics [IUPAP]. The prize will be given in recognition of exceptional achievement in the study of plasma physics by a scientist in the early stage of their career.
The award, consisting of a certificate, medal and 1,000 euros in prize money, will be presented during the opening session of the EPS/ICPP conference, which is being held in Stockholm on 2-6 July this year…
American Physical Society approves strategic plan
At a recent meeting of the American Physical Society [APS] Council executive board, the APS Strategic Plan for 2013-2017 was approved.
The plan takes into account the evolution of the APS, and the new challenges concerning physics and physicists: especially APS members. Conference on new frontiers in physics
The first International Conference on new Frontiers in Physics [ICFP 2012] is being held in Kolymbari, Crete, on 8-16 June this year. The conference will address high energy particle and nuclear physics, with a focus on interdisciplinary studies.
