The European Physical Society Accelerator Group [EPS-AG] is appealing for sponsors for the 2012 Student Grant Programmes, to send European students to the IPAC’12 conference.

The Student Grant Programmes from the last two years were hugely successful; over 50 students attended IPAC’10, and the combined sponsorship programmes involved with IPAC’11 enabled over 107 students worldwide to attend – around a tenth of the total number of participants.

The European Physical Society is most grateful to the European laboratories and institutes that contributed to IPAC’11: ALBA/CELLS, CEA, CERN, CNRS-IN2P3, DESY, DIAMOND Light Source, ESRF, FZD, FZJ, GSI, HZB, HIC for FAIR, INN, JAI, Lund University, Max-lab, MSL, PSI, Synchrotron SOLEIL, STFC.

Interested parties for the 2012 grants are encouraged to pledge their support, either for a fixed sum of money, or a certain number of students, by contacting Christine Petit-Jean-Genaz christine [dot] petit-jean-genaz [at] cern [dot] ch. The estimated average cost of bringing one student to the conference is around 1,000 euros. In addition, transfers should be made at the earliest convenience to the European Physical Society account, the details of which follow.

Sponsors will be listed on conference website, in the programme booklets and in the preface to the proceedings.

The European Physical Society thanks in advance the European laboratories and institutes that continue to support this programme, without which European students would have no chance of attending these international events which are so valuable to their future careers within the accelerator community.

2012 Bologna/EHEA Ministerial Conference

The next summit of the Ministers of Higher Education of the ‘Bologna’ or European Higher Education Area [EHEA] countries will take place on 26-27 April this year, in the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania.

Last year, the European Commission announced a substantial increase - 68 per cent - of investment in education for the next Framework 2014/20 budget. It is of prime importance, therefore, to determine the role of European institutions in the consolidation and progress of the Bologna Process, especially given that the EHEA summits will only be held...
