Call for 2012 IUPAP C11 Young Scientist Prize

Nominations are now open for the IUPAP Young Scientist Prize for the Commission of Particles and Fields (C11). The prizes, of which there are two given each year, are presented in recognition of outstanding young experimental or theoretical particle physicists.

The awards, consisting of a medal and 1000 euros in prize money, will be presented at the 36th International Conference on High Energy Physics, which is being held in Melbourne, Australia on 4-11 July this year.

Nominees should have a maximum of eight years of research experience, excluding career interruptions, following their PhD. Previous award recipients are not eligible.

Candidates may be nominated by experimental or theoretical particle physicists who are familiar with the work of their nominee. Nominations – which should contain of a letter of recommendation, the candidate’s CV and a list of their publications – should be emailed to the C11 Commission Chair, Hiroaki Aihara IUPAP-YSP [at] hep [dot] phys [dot] s [dot] u-tokyo [dot] ac [dot] jp, before 1 March this year.

EPS to consider increase in fees for Individual Members

A proposal to increase Individual Member fees is being presented by the European Physical Society [EPS] Executive Committee at the 2012 EPS Council. The motion would see an increase in Individual Member fees by 10 per cent, for all respective categories.

The current membership fees have been fixed since 2007. If adopted, the fee increase would apply only to Individual Members, and would become effective in 2013...
