The EPS is proud to announce that the European Gravitational Observatory, the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia and the Museo Storico della Fisica e Centro Studi e Ricerche ‘E. Fermi’, have joined the European Physical Society as Associate Members.

The Museo Storico della Fisica e Centro Studi e Ricerche ‘E. Fermi’ was created in honour of the achievements and vision of Enrico Fermi. It provides a centre for studies and research at the frontiers of science, along with providing scholarships for young scientists to undertake research in Italy.

The European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), located near Pisa, Italy, exists to ensure the long-term scientific exploitation of the VIRGO interferometric antenna for the purposes of detecting gravitational waves, along with fostering European collaboration in this upcoming field. EGO is a consortium, which is jointly funded by the French Centre national de la recherche scientifique and the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare in Italy.

The Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), located in Genova, was established by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to promote excellence in basic and applied research. The IIT promotes cooperation between academic institutions and private organisations, to enhance scientific development, technological advances and training in advanced technology.
