Asia Europe Physics Summit
The Asia-Europe Physics Summit (ASEPS) will be held on 26-29 October 2011 in Wroclaw, Poland. ASEPS is a platform for the forging of Asia-Europe physics programme strategies, through discussions of the scientific priorities, and possible shared contributions to large-scale infrastructures or networks, in an Asia-Europe cooperation framework.
ASEPS promotes synergy between the different fields of physics, as well as between physics and other scientific disciplines. It also encourages the involvement of developing countries in research.
The summit will address three main issues:
- major challenges in physics;
- trends in physics and science policy issues;
- big projects and large research infrastructures.
An integral part of the conference will be the poster session – focusing on cooperative efforts. The posters, which will be on display throughout the entire summit, are intended to promote the exchange of ideas and the building of relationships.
In addition, parallel workshops will center on issues such as: cooperation with developing countries; physics and energy for the world and physics and technology development in the next decade.
ASEPS is organised by the Wroclaw Research Centre EIT+, under the coordination of the Association Asian Pacific Physical Societies, the Deutsche Physikaliche Gesellschaft, the European Physical Society, the Polish Physical Society and the Société Française de Physique.
ASEPS contributes to the development of bi-regional cooperative projects through joint labs, workshop centres and schools for education and training. It aims to improve communication with society – in particular between scientists, decision makers and industry representatives.
The ASEPS 2011 motto is “Physics for sustainable development”, while the goal of the summit is to show scientific potential in the field of widely understood physics in Europe and Asia, from the point of view of synergy search; building common science and technology; and educational enterprises.
Representatives of leading science centres; key research infrastructures from Asia and Europe1; global industrial partners; non-governmental organisations and authorities responsible for science and innovation development are invited to participate in this intercontinental event.
To ensure a wide representation of Asian countries, the organisers plan to co-finance the participation of attendees from less developed Asian countries.
